IDC is on the AMEX.
There is only one Market Maker on the AMEX for IDC. Now NASD owns IDC, and the shares can trade in many different market locations. But it is my understanding that until the main MM on the AMEX opens the stock, the other exchanges are either unwilling or forced to halt the stock.
I am seeing stock trade, but I think the trades are either Island or Instinet trades that are strictly match buys or sells and come across very slowly.

I was hoping to buy the stock on the open in the $50 range, but it looks like I will be paying between $80 and $100.

There are around 2,000,000 shares short, and most of that was likely sold in the $5 to $12 range. That is a lot of stock that is likely to be covered. I have been on the other short side of one of these types of moves before, and a very small short position can become a very big problem quickly. Lets just say, I think there should be some solid demand from these older shorts for a little while.
