Thanks, I find your observations very interesting, as usual. I cannot conceive of Britain participating in a purely continental security force, excluding the States and Canada, even in 50 years, and I am not so sure that France will agree that soon to de-Altanticizing a security force dominated by Germany and Russia. I know that Mitteleuropa will not.....Any implication that Germany is gaining undue financial leverage, not only in Russia, but in the nascent Russian sphere of influence, will have bad consequences, and it would be wise for Schroeder not to say such things, which are provocative....De-Nazification means remembering, not glossing over. It also means repudiating "Junkerism", and aspiring, like Heine, to be a good "citizen of Europe", proud of the cultural contributions of the German speaking lands, but dubious about the remoter political legacy.....Kohl cannot be silent forever, I think......And Happy New Year! |
