EMC Qualifies Emulex LP850 Fibre Channel Host Adapter for Symmetrix Windows NT Environments

COSTA MESA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 30, 1999--

LP850 Provides High Performance Fibre Channel Connectivity for

Entry-Level Server Market

Emulex Corp. (NASDAQ:EMLX), an industry leader in fibre channel technology and products, Thursday announced that the LightPulse(TM) LP850 fibre channel host bus adapter has been qualified by EMC Corp. (NYSE:EMC) for use with its Symmetrix Enterprise Storage systems in Windows NT environments.

The LP850 has been qualified by EMC for its Windows NT solutions, including hub-based arbitrated loop (FC-AL) configurations and Enterprise Storage Networks (ESNs) based on EMC's new Connectrix(TM) systems. The LP850 is based on the market leading LP8000 high-end host adapter, and provides high-performance fibre channel connectivity for both Windows NT and Novell environments.

Don Swatik, EMC's vice president of product management, said, "The Emulex LP850 host adapter provides EMC customers with a solution for entry-level server connectivity that delivers high-performance, flexibility and scalability in Windows NT environments. Once again, Emulex and EMC are teaming to meet the growing needs of our mutual customers."

"The LP850 host adapter provides an ideal fibre channel solution for open systems environments, including Windows NT and Novell. It has the same full fibre channel feature set as our high-end LP8000 to support flexible and scalable SANs, but is optimized for entry-level server applications," stated Mike Smith, vice president worldwide marketing for Emulex Corp. "As EMC continues to penetrate the Windows NT market, the LP850 provides an ideal host connectivity solution."

The Emulex LP850 Host Bus Adapter

Designed to support open server applications, the 64 bit PCI-based LP850 provides a full fibre channel feature set, including switched fabric support using F-Port and FL-Port connections, high data integrity, support for all fibre channel topologies, and support for service classes 2 and 3. The LP850 also features sophisticated hardware that provides superior performance in storage area networks (SAN), delivering low latency and high throughput in switched, arbitrated loop and clustered environments. The LP850 is available with embedded copper or short-wave optical physical interfaces, as well as a GBIC interface, providing customers with a wide range of product options. The LP850 is supported by full-featured software for Windows NT and Novell NetWare environments, including support for storage protocol (SCSI), network protocol (IP), as well as multi-protocol (SCSI & IP) operation, enabling advanced SAN applications in entry-level systems.

The LP850 is part of a broad family of fibre channel products offered by Emulex to address the needs of both mission-critical enterprise applications and open systems computing. The Emulex fibre channel family also includes our high-performance PCI-based LP8000 and LP7000E host adapters, the new 2Gb/s LP9000 host adapter family, the S-Bus based LP8000S host adapter, the price-performance optimized LP3000 host adapter and the industry's first digital re-timing hub, the LH5000 series.
