[GTE, etc.]

<<<* What are the facts/gossip with Intel & ADSL?>>>

I have neither. Only know Andy wants bandwidth.

<<<* Did anyone see that GTE switched over to the Microsoft browser
yesterday?>>>

Hmmmm. . . I didn't notice but this is good considering their relationship on the trials.

I've also just read the results of the Overture 8 DMT/CAP comparisons GTE did recently (Thank you, James!) In short, "The comparison reveals that the performance of today's Overture 8 is significantly better than the best possible performance achievable by the proposed CAP system." They compared the Overture 8 in real-world situations to CAP's theoretical best-case conditions and the Overture 8 still blew them out of the water in all respects. The final lines of the report read, ". . . the comparison of results suggests that the proposed CAP system will not match the current performance of Overture 8. Coupled with DMT's robustness to noise and other channel impairments and its automatic (and inherent) rate adaptivity, the test results prove that ANSI and ETSI made the right decision by selecting DMT as the standard for ADSL."

<<<* BTW the Bell Atlantic/NYNEX merger will be approved or not approved shortly..remember they said they would announce ADSL plans after the merger!!>>>

Given the above report, I've even more curious what they'll announce.

Cheers!

Pat
