I bought a bunch of Corel a few months ago, for reasons not listed so far in this thread.
I waited and waited until it seemed like the price had bottomed out (of course, that turned out to not be the case) and I bought. But not because I thought very highly of the company or their products. I bought because they have Word Perfect.
You know those weird people out there like Larry Ellison, Scott McNealy, etc., who spend more time knashing their teeth about Microsoft than running their companies? I think it's only a matter of time before someone like that buys Word Perfect just to get back at Microsoft. It's the only credible competition out there, with the only word processor other than Word that anyone's ever heard of.
WordPerfect is the other franchise in word processing, and as such is pretty valuable, particularly for someone trying to build alternatives to Microsoft.
The way I figured it, either Corel would finally get their act together and make some serious money as the Microsoft alternative (the less reasonable case, I think), OR somebody like Oracle, Sun, Lotus, etc would purchase Corel in order to get their hands on the only realistic competition to dreaded Microsoft.
While I've taken a bit of a loss on the shares so far, I still think this is a valid argument.
Just my two cents,
