Oh why not ... in deciding how I'm going to spend my day
tomorrow, I decided to look at the time zones and see who's
rolling over when.

This is just me, my TI-85 calculator (it's kind of sad, I
have a BS in Math and use a calculator for simple addition
and subtraction), and the Date/Time Properties stuff built
in to windows 98 (for time zones).

Here is my own little "count down"

The leftmost column is the time zone with the leading "GMT"
ommitted, so EST (time in New York City) is abbreviated
from GMT-05:00 to just -05:00.
The middle three columns are the time that the given time
zone will rollover in London, NYC, and LA, respectively.
The rightmost column gives some notes about what cities or
countries are in that time zone (according to windows 98).
I chose them pretty randomly, so affix a mental "etc" to
each one if your "favorite" place isn't listed you just
get to look up what time zone it's in for yourself.

For example, New Zealand (GMT+12:00) is the first to
rollover which will occur at 7am EST (where I live), so
that's when I'm gonna try to get up to check for any news.

If you can't figure out which day (the 12/31 or 01/01) the
various times are then that, IMO is your problem ;). If
you can't handle 24 hour time, then that's DEFINITELY your
problem (have 12 hours of am and 12 hours of pm is an
absolute recipe for ambiguity and extra work. Why, WHY is
it still used by so many people!?!?).

Why did I do this? I have no clue ... insomnia I guess.
The time zones that were left out were cause I didn't
recognize any of the place or time zone names that win98
listed so i figured (rather naively to be sure) that not
that many people or important things are in those time
zones.

Yes, a total waste of time, anyone with a brain and a list
of time zones could do it themselves, but oh well.

Good luck to all of us.
