WELLINGTON (Reuters) - The Reserve Bank of New Zealand said on Saturday that the country's 24-hour banking systems had come through the local 2000 date change without difficulty.

Reserve Bank deputy governor Rod Carr said reports from New Zealand banks showed automated teller machines, electronic fund transfer point of sale and credit card transactions were working well.

``New Zealanders should have no difficulty getting cash and doing their shopping in the next few days,' he said.

The central bank had also been advised that inter-bank check clearing was also proceeding normally, he said.

The Reserve Bank is due to make a further scheduled statement at 5.00 p.m. local time, with banks due to open on January 5.
