StarBase Corp. Announces StarGate SDK --A Key Element of the StarBase eCycle Strategy December 31, 1999 08:30 AM SANTA ANA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 31, 1999--
StarGate SDK Provides Extensive Customization and Third Party Product Integration Capabilities for StarTeam
StarBase Corp. SBAS , a leading provider of eBusiness Life Cycle Management Solutions, Friday announced the general availability of StarGate SDK, a comprehensive software development kit providing an open programmable access to the StarTeam Server and connectivity to best-of-breed eBusiness products from industry leading companies.
StarGate SDK is key to the execution of the recently announced StarBase eCycle strategy, providing a unique gateway solution for connecting many of the industry's leading eBusiness life-cycle development products.
Through the open connectivity of StarGate SDK, the StarTeam Server becomes the foundational repository for best-of-breed products, such as Web application authoring products from companies like Microsoft and Macromedia, application testing products from companies like Mercury Interactive, RadView and CYRANO, and application servers from companies like Allaire, Bluestone, BEA Systems and SilverStream.
StarGate SDK's application programming interface (API) supports a wide variety of programming languages and standard interfaces including Microsoft COM and platform independent Java.
"StarGate SDK brings a new dimension to StarBase," commented Lydia Patterson, vice president products group.
"Our customers can now create their own specialized client and Web browsers, and integrate StarTeam with their existing life-cycle tools. This integration capability creates a huge market opportunity for our implementation partners, including VARs, system integrators and consultants who can extend the current StarTeam functionality to complement and integrate with their own technology."
Patterson also added, "StarGate SDK gives us a fundamental competitive advantage in OEM partnerships, enabling deep integration between StarTeam and the destination technology."
Early release customers have built a wide variety of custom StarTeam clients. Manhattan Associates MANH , for example, built a custom process workflow system that is in production today. This system manages their supply chain development with a controlled approval process for change requests linked to their nightly Unix builds.
"StarTeam has exceeded our expectations with its flexibility and customization capabilities. The productivity improvements we have seen in our development process have been dramatic. Our technology partnership will be very beneficial to both StarBase and Manhattan Associates," said Venky Sivaraman, development manager for Manhattan Associates.
StarGate SDK is also a key element of the StarBase Professional Services Group strategy which is focused on building custom work flow and task-oriented clients, desktop and corporate portals. StarGate SDK has been used internally at StarBase for more than two years.
StarGate SDK provides a powerful and productive interface used to produce many of the current StarTeam family of products, such as StarDisk, the Windows Explorer-based client software, designed for the non-technical user, and Web Connect, the Web browser interface.
StarTeam integrations with other products such as Microsoft Visual Basic and C++, Insight's Delphi and J Builder, Symantec's Visual Cafe and Allaire's Cold Fusion have all been developed using StarGate SDK. To register for StarGate SDK, visit the company's Web site at www.starbase.com.
