Isaac Watts <SP> wrote a huge number of the "hymns" that many churches use in worship today. His main argument was that Jesus was not in the Psalms. That is a sad comment on where Isaac Watts was at spiritually. I am persuaded that God's gave the Church a Psalm Book of His own hand and written by the Holy Spirit so the Church could use it - not lay it aside and sing songs of their own making. As far as creating songs about God I would that the whole world be about that rather than worldly affairs. Some people in here have lately been quoting the Beatles and their pathetic spiritual "pot luck" Also the "Grateful Dead" like the dead are grateful or that they know anything about God at all. I have gotten to the place in my life where I not only refrain from anything but Psalms in Corporate Worship but also listen "mostly" to them outside of worship. I just think that if people what to "evangelize" then it is nothing but God's Word that has any true effect. Many man made "hymns" are full of errors. I mention X-Mass Carols because they were instrumental in subverting the use of Psalms in the Church Historically. I should not argue from abuse but most people fail to leave these other compositions outside the door when they enter the church and have turned the House of Prayer into a theatre and even many of the new buildings being put up are designed for plays and entertainment. Many people sing TO GOD things they know are not true. " We know that Christ our saviour was born on X-Mass day " " No crying he makes " ( what is that about? ) It has been so long for me I can hardly remember any of those carols anymore as I sit here and try to think. There is NOTHING WRONG with people writing tunes about God but many who do are not very careful about what the songs and teaching and many of them are actually evil. Like the one that was put up the other day by the beatles. If Christians would stick to the Word and the Psalms there would not be so much confusion about God. I do not believe God wants anything else sung however in the Church other than what He has provided THE PSALMS. I know that people hate that attitude but I believe it is the Biblical attitude concerning Worship. Cain brought his own invention to God in worship, that is not right. I can sing TO GOD with the greatest of confidence the Psalms that God gave me. Knowing that He is pleased with them and that they are the very word of Christ! That is a Blessing.
