Just like the environment, no one is against diversification but, if relative fundamentals and relative valuation suggest further gains are likely, I'll pick other names to sell for hedging purposes. Unilaterally and mechanically selling companies just because they have delivered big gains doesn't make sense to me. If you think fundamentals have changed or valuation is skewed, then it makes sense to take some off the table and diversify. But if you are planning to take profits because you expect others to take profits and you are trying to take them first, in the end, I think you are better off being more discerning about sell candidates.
