hi myron,

netscape newsgroup is free. to learn more about it, click 'help' at the top of the toolbar, then 'help contents'. on the left side you'll see 'newsgroups'. choose that. newsgroups is a place to go with technical questions and to get prompt action. thousands of messages posted there, all searchable in a database. i use it often.

your antivirus software is about three years old. i'll leave it to you to decide whether you think it's valid to upgrade to current standards. i know some people who don't run any av. others (like me and tc) obviously like to keep it up to the minute. <g3> to my knowledge, you are not able to retrieve all available virus definitions with anything less than norton antivirus 5.0. yes, two steps are essential... download what updates are available, then run a scan of your hard drive. there are places on the web where you can get av products free or for trial periods. i can't name them. i use norton (the best, imo) and i'm satisfied.

i suggest that you try my idea of creating a new profile in profile manager. i'd be interested in what that does. meanwhile, i will post what i can of your situation on the newsgroups and see what suggestions we get. i'll not be able to respond to any inquiries with any real degree of certainty, but we'll try it anyway. <g3>

:)
