Hi-Michael, NOt to get into a religious discussion- I'm no good at them!-- but I looked at the link and noticed that several of the persecutions mentioned are being committed toward people "of faith" BY people "of faith"!!! It would seem to be a matter not of unbelievers as much as different believers trying to overcome the others. It all springs from intolerance, no matter who's doing it, but I think we need to be careful not to imply that religious persecution is an atheistic response to religion; too often it is like domestic violence- taking place within the family of believers. (ANother quote "The principal danger of man is religion.")
