Yawn.....okay, the sun has risen. Y2K is, hang on, gotta check on that url....powers on, airforce plane worked, screeching through the sky at daybreak...some siren works [police, ambulance or something...only one of them, not lots]
OK, the NZ govt Website [The Web is working] says 203.167.217.4 < Three hours into the new millennium there have been no significant incidents (only one local incident was formally reported, and one other was advised - both were non-Y2K related). A number of the Regional Monitoring Centres are closing. The National Centre is continuing to monitor with a reduced staff and will revert to standby status if no further incidents are reported by 6pm today (1 January) with any incidents to be reported through the National Duty Officer.
It has been enormously positive that we have been able to monitor and report the favourable outcome of New Zealand's careful and co-ordinated preparations. Our website has recorded more than 2 million hits from outside New Zealand up to 3.30am. >
I suppose that means they've gone home to bed and Y2K is a GIANT FIZZER, which I already figured on seeing the stock prices up heaps as people pile in.
So, looks like it's "Chocks Away". Globalstar must be selling handsets like hot cakes. They know by now if they'll be selling them or not. The word would be out easily. So I suppose I can forget about my bargain basement nabbing of some more.
As they said last night in big writing at the Y2K show, THIS IS IT<
If people don't own Globalstar now, they are going to wonder how they could see, "The Next Qualcomm" slip through their fingers. Some said, "the next Qualcomm is Qualcomm", but the suble twist is that it is an offspring of Mighty Q! which will be the next Qualcomm.
Welcome to the show Tom.
Why is G* breaking out today? I say it's because they are selling Globalstar phones like crazy. None of that TA nonsense [except that I'm not selling my shares, so the price is going to go up a LOT in a short time].
Price revision hereby to 200/2/2000.
Here is a back of screen calculation - 10bn minutes x 45c per minute = $4.5bn per year. Take off the 0.5 to tidy up the number, make it easier to multiply and pay for the operating costs and interest payments = $4bn per year profit.
Multiply that by 3 constellations = $12bn per year.
Divide that by how many shares there are, now that was quite a lot so the profit per share will be ... I forget and my url for share numbers is on the fritz. It works out to a big number.
Halve that number because some of the minutes will be sold cheaper but it still leaves a lot. Then you need one of those discount factors to allow for time dilation of your money sitting waiting for the profits to arrive, according to the theory of relativity which applies to share prices moving really, really fast.
Then multiply it by your choice of multiple to get the share price in 2010. You'll be looking at a number you won't believe. So you'll miss out on the next Qualcomm. Because it won't take 10 years to put up three constellations and fill them.
There is my official prediction. Happy Y2K folks. The Web works, IT is growing daily, and FAST. Globalstar is the ONLY supplier of CDMA in mobile from space. Lead times are years for competitors to come up with something in space.
Forget about floating blimps - they don't give coverage.
Nice to see you here Tom. I see Gregory Mullineaux must be here too. No rest until March by the look of it. He's impatient and I bet the mob is too. I suppose I'll have to have the money instead of the neighbourhood.
When Globalstar is a $200bn company [possibly even faster than Qualcomm] people are going to think --- "Gee, I thought it was one of those space thingies like Iridium. I wonder why Iridium didn't work but Globalstar's okay".
Prepare for a rocket ride.
Meanwhile, thanks Rocket Scientist, [and others of course] for all that effort in hunting out the gory details.
The deed is done, the constellation is [nearly] up. The handsets are selling flat out [I suppose]. It works like a charm. The $1.50 pricing must be about right. Holy Moly that means this is going to be nuts.
One puzzle though, how come yous can get those handsets so quickly if there's huge demand? Hmmmmm. I better watch that for a week or three.
Maybe this is just a rant and they really aren't selling and it's just a blip up in price.
I doubt it. I think sales reps know it's selling and they are flat out buying shares and telling their families and I'M NOT SELLING MY SHARES>
Happy Y2K everybody. It's fine on the other side.
GoG*Go, Rah, RAH, RAH!
