I'm sure some of our historians have discussed or researched this. MAtter of fact, I seem to have a memory of some pretty heated arguments about Hitler, so you and I won't get into that one! I was and am NO good at history- can't retain facts. I just assumed most Germans were Lutherans and Catholics- that it was a predominantly self-declared CHristian nation. I think the only way we can define Christian, or do any religious "labelling", is by self-declaration. Otherwise we get into arguing who is, and why, and I don't think it's possible to be objective about religion or to refuse to consider someone something because they don't behave the way WE define the category. Like saying the Inquisition wasn't carried out by "real" Christians. Well, THEY sure thought they were. It wouldn't be fair to let EV decide who qualified to be Christian, for instance- THAT would be a very small group. So if you say you are, then I assume you -- are. EV told me I wasn't, which at the time surprised me a lot. But he didn't like something I said, therefore I could not possibly be a Christian. ANYWAY- rambling here.
