Track Data Stock Up on Palm Pilot Link

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Market data provider Track Data Corp. (NasdaqNM:TRAC -
news) saw its shares jump Friday after saying it plans to offer wireless Internet access to its
online stock trading system through the handheld electronic organizer, Palm Pilot VII.

Track Data stock was trading up 3-1/8 to 10 after surging to a new 52-week high of 12 in
the first minutes of trading, making it the second most active stock following highflier
Qualcomm Inc. (NasdaqNM:QCOM - news) on the Nasdaq.

Within 15 minutes of the open, 4.5 million Track Data shares had traded hands, compared
with an average daily volume of 671,535 according to Standard & Poor's MarketScope.

The broader market pushed into record territory on the last day of trading for the year. The
technology-driven Nasdaq composite index (^IXIC - news) gained 7.45 points, or 0.18
percent, to 4,044.32 on light volume.

Track Data announced early Friday that its system, providing stock price quotes and the
ability to place trades, should be available on the Palm Pilot within about 30 days.

''We are very excited about the Palm Pilot development,'' said Barry Hertz, Track Data's
chairman and chief executive, in a prepared statement.

''Wireless Internet technology for online trading has only just begun and is projected to have
wide acceptance by the investing community over the next few years. We also plan to
interface with additional wireless devices in the near future,'' he said.

The Palm Pilot hand-held computer is a 3Com Corp. (NasdaqNM:COMS - news)
product. Shares of 3Com, a computer equipment company, slipped 11/16 to 47-1/4, off a
year high of 53-3/4.
