Congrats on the thread, Kevin. You are certainly well qualified to run such a thread. You always have interesting things to say.

I think that now that Yeltsin is out, it paves the way for a movement toward an all-Slavic republic. I think that in 2000 Russia will join with The Ukraine, Belarus and Khazakstan to become a world power once again. And that would be big news indeed.

Other republics will become united as smaller versions of the same, IMO. . .the one thing that won't happen is that these many republics will stay totally on their own. . .it is just too difficult to make work. Sort of like the way farmers co-op to gain advantages.

But the real threat is that these 4 republics have 90 percent of the original USSR arsenal. So it is very important WHO will be leading. . . if indeed that is what happens there.

Then what about China. . . will they become the next Superpower? . . . .and if so, will the U.S. lose some influence with the world?
