In the PC business, the top 10% performance commands almost the entire profitability of the industry. Embedded cores typically cost less than $20, whereas top of the line CPUs cost more than $300.

The implication of these statements is pretty amazing...it would seem not only do they provide for industry profitability but they permit a large safety margin for error.

In an odd way, the thinking is not too unlike the thinking behind the American auto industry's past habit of building guaranteed obsolescence into their cars.

And you are saying that these embedded processors are pretty much the equivalent of the cpu?
