My focus is not on APS as your message would imply, you brought that up in this context. Not I. And I've been sensitized to the differences between optical and electrical in the context of their roles in SONET for quite some time. Perhaps far too long ;)

Optical, or more appropriately, the Photonic Sublayer resides at the base of the SONET stack, not electrical, and it does not include framing in its purest form. Framing takes place at a higher sublayer of Layer One.

Pretty soon we'll be in agreement. Then the only thing remaining will be for you to explain how the overhead bytes are read by the Corestream, as outlined in my preceding message.
