Bill:

I was told that one of the problems with going offline is that if an activity has not been offline before, they may have problems starting up again. However, I think Y2K will turn out to be more of a nuisance--and massive expense to cope with it--than anything else. Japan was supposed to have been far behind Europe and the U. S. in their solutions. Since Europe and the U. S probably rely the most on technology, they would face the greatest potential I suppose. I believe the Department of Commerce reported that 60 percent of all internet connections are in the U. S. However, I assume that the U. S. and Europe have dealt with it. If Italy is heard from next week, probably everyone will pull through.

The U. S. will see by January 4th. That will give all the activities that went offline an opportunity to go back online again.

I just hope I wake up tomorrow and have my computer and internet access up and running. I cannot function without it.

I think finding a replacement for Yeltsin is the primary issue also. We will probably hear from some ardent nationalist that believes Russia's future rests in its past before it is all over. Fortunately, the U. S. will have a seasoned government during this transition.

A good idea would be to download updates from the anit-virus sites and run an antivirus program before logging-off tonight.
