Spire Corp Closes Sale Of Unit To Methode For $13M

BEDFORD, Mass. -- Spire Corp. (SPIR) closed the sale of the assets of its optoelectronics unit to Methode Electronics (METHA) for about $13 million.

In a press release Thursday, Spire said the sale allows it to focus on its solar and biomedical businesses.

Spire had revenue in 1998 of about $14 million.

Methode had revenue in fiscal year 1999 of about $411 million.

The two companies reached a definitive agreement for the sale Nov. 21, as reported.

Methode Electronics makes information technology component devices.

Spire Corp. supplies equipment for assembling terrestrial photovoltaic modules from solar cells.

Looks like METHA going to increase in the opto-electronic sector.
