A HAPPY NEW YEAR to all current and former Lombard/Discover/MSDW customers!

What a ride this has been. Who knows what this broker will be called when we celebrate 2001! The rates go up April 1, 2000 for all former Discover customers. Someone posted earlier that MSDW said that the rate hike may be reconsidered. At this point, it does not matter to me - I'm going.

My New Years resolution is to get the heck out of Dodge. The message is loud and clear - MSDW does not want to mess with us "do-it-yourselfers". $14.95/trade was an acceptable price, $29.95/trade is not. With an Internet full of information and research tools, MSDW cannot justify the benefits of a $29.95 commission.

My wife's and my IRAs will be transferred to Datek next month. I will be sending all cash in our other accounts to Ameritrade as positions liquidate. If they don't work out, I'll go elsewhere.
