Although neither of these two made S. Harmon's list for 2000, I think they are worth a serious look:

1. Backweb (BWEB): a leader in "push client" software, with a twist. Its "Polite Agent" technology has specialized functions and it doesn't interfere with standard web browsing. Very cheap at $40 per share.

2. US Internetworking (USIX): Sells complex software systems from major enterprise software companies via partnership agreements (Siebel Systems, Microsoft, BroadVision, Ariba, etc.) to Fortune 1000 companies. In doing so, it guarantees installation, maintenance, and proper implementation so that it works properly with its customer's network environment. In short, it is a one-stop shop for major corporations to acquire complex software necessary for human resource and financial systems.

Other internet theme to consider for 2000: internet copyright and intellectual property assignment companies such as Digimark (DMRC) and Intertrust (ITRU). Think of this as a different kind of web security system, then think of how companies like Verisign (VRSN) have done this year.
