I just hope I wake up tomorrow and have my computer and internet access up and running. I cannot function without it.

Amen brother! I have been so involved in troubleshooting potential problems at work I never gave my computer bios or software a second thought!

I am teasing...there is nothing "critical" on my home PC. I do use it to keep an eye on my investments, and my checking account, otherwise, there is nothing "date sensitive" on it.

I would suggest however that people who ASSUME that modern-day Microsoft products are in the least "immune" to Y2K educate themselves on the shortcomings.

I uncrated a brand new Dell "top of the line" PC at work the other day and found an additional CD marked "year 200 corrective software" or some such. We do not use the Windows 95 OS, but we apparently have to PAY FOR IT anyway!

It is incredible that as recent as Windows 95 MS would sell MILLIONS of copies of an operating system with potentially serious Y2K glitches.

People want to talk about the "overblown" issues, and a software giant like MS has slipped quietly past any serious mainstream media criticism.

The issues with mainframe and COBOL are pretty straight-forward and easy to comprehend. The issues with an OS released in the last 5 years not being "compliant" is a testiment to sloppy programming and the rush to market a product before it is ready.....something that MS has turned into a lucrative "niche" market. Can you imagine PAYING a company to do their beta testing??????

Only Bill Gates could have pulled that one off!
