Good <IDC> Info INTERDIGITAL COMMUNICATIONS (IDC) EXECUTIVE INTERVIEW Interim President Howard Goldberg December 30, Duration 30 minutes cheetahmail.com Shares of InterDigital Communications have been on a steep ascent since November when the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office (PTO) reaffirmed the validity of two of its TDMA patents which are involved in a lawsuit filed by Ericsson (ERICY). In this interview, InterDigital's Interim President Howard Goldberg tells about the company's portfolio of TDMA and CDMA wireless technology patents, the strengthening of its licensing program, and its early transition toward high bandwidth CDMA technology for third generation (3G) wireless products, which he indicates will roll out in late 2003 or early 2004. He comments on IDC's relationship with Nokia in which IDC is developing part of Nokia's 3G wireless technology and IDC's intention to partner with at least one major semiconductor company in the year 2000 to address the 3G market. Get a sense for how pervasive 3G may become when Goldberg touches on some of the less obvious wireless appliances that may use the technology, such as vending machines communicating via the Internet to alert their masters that they need to be refilled.
