Having missed the option of being dragged to a foreign country to essentially be fodder for the whims of political thinking at the time (thankfully), I found that "Platoon" seemed to exemplify more of actual combat situations one might have encountered on a personal level then say "Full Metal Jacket" or "Hamberger Hill".

Of the three mentioned above, undoubtedly, none of them can really show us what it was like to actually be there. But for character interaction, human situation-stress thinking, and good 'ol shoot 'em up, "Platoon" gets my nod for the best.

What is it about your choice which places it above the rest in that particular category?

Edit: "Bat 21" runs a close second especially for a subject-specific war related situation, however I must add, my movie viewing is limited as compared to those who spend time watching many.
