Malcolm,...While I agree with you that we don't want this board to deteriorate into the Yahoo type or even the SI Dell board I would hesitate to discourage a person with Michelda's track record from posting here. It seems inevitable that most people who have had a successful investment experience tend to ascribe their success to their own brilliance. The next step is to think that they ought to be telling everyone else about every idea that pops into their head because they think that everyone wants to hear their next brilliant pronouncement. <G>. When the board deteriorates into high fives for everyone from everyone along with wild optimistic predictions, I have to quit reading. I hope that doesn't happen here.
So far, the SI Softbank board has been the most thoughtful, informative board that I have come across anywhere on the internet as far as stock investing is concerned. I hope it can stay that way.
My one foray into participating in some of the hype style commentary was a modest projection that Softbank should be scheduled to go over $1000 in late January based on just looking at the chart history. I was actually a little reluctant and embarrassed to make such a comment on this board because I am not a chartist by nature and the board has been devoid of that type of prediction. Actually, my own chart analysis projected $1200 by late January or early February at a time when Softbank was below $700, but I was content to predict "over $1000". We appear to be somewhat ahead of my chart inspired projection so perhaps Michelda's prediction of 150,000 yen for January is not so far fetched. If he knew of the Newsweek article, perhaps his prediction is even reasonable.
It seems that Softbank has exceeded almost everyone's wildest expectations on a pretty regular basis throughout 1999. I think that most of us are expecting a continuation into 2000, but with some increasing concerns that things are getting a little frothy.
From inside Japan, there is still not a lot of visibility of Softbank actually performing in the marketplace. I think that we on this board are more aware of Softbank's emerging activities and their potential impact than many individuals inside Japan. Because of this situation, I still see a lot of upside potential for Softbank stock with the Japanese investors. And we still have the potential for an American stock mania hitting Softbank if and when a US exchange traded Softbank becomes available. So the upside is still pretty much wide open for Softbank stock in my opinion.
In the meantime, I hope we can all focus on posting real news and analysis here on this terrific board and leave the hyping to other people on other boards. |
