Bags Match Passenger?

Hockeyfan,

As I'm sure you are still gloating over your victory, hollow as it may be.......I'm not sure if you noticed the same thing I did while traveling to the last high level Commission meeting held at a secret location....in Sarasota.

I had the chance to visit 3 airports....SLC, Hartsfield (Atlanta)....and Tampa.

When boarding the plane, at all 3 locations, there was a laser bar scanner at the gate entrance.......the boarding pass was scanned....and I was allowed to proceed down the Jetway.

I'm sure you had to go through the same process?.....and saw the machines?

Well....did you also notice the 1.5 x 1.5 inch square hole that was in the corner of the machine....with a plastic insert in it?

I hope you did.......I think that hole is for a future index finger scanner......so that the airline can be sure that the individual who checked the bag...is the same individual who gets on the plane.

I see the same prepared opening on the new ATMs.

Next time you fly...check it out. Right now.......the boarding pass is scanned....but it does not mean that the person who checked the bag..... is the same one who gets on the plane.

I think this is a security problem that could be easily solved with the IDX solution........An index print is taken at bag check in.....and again at boarding.

Anyhow....I think the pre-cut hole in these new boarding scanners are for future biometric identification. Perhaps the FAA will move this Spring.....as Y2K seems to have been a non-event.......but security seems to be a growing concern.
