We had a great New Year's and actually munched on home made Chinese food as the appetizer.

Admittedly we do not have much of a palate for wine but we do have our favorites. We like some of the German Piesporters and a few of the California Cabernet Savignon. Funny thing is that we have a liquor-wine store in town that seems to get a great selection California wines.

We buy some of the Dunn Vineyard - Howell Mountain Cabernet and let it sit for 5-10 years. We only have a few bottles here and my friend in TX warehouses a good deal of the stash. Actually I buy it for him and he sets aside a few bottles for us.

When we went out for dinner in Denver this past week, to a new steakhouse, my wife and I checked for it on the wine list (we hardly ever find it on the wine lists anywhere). This place (Ruth's Chris Steakhouse) had the Dunn - Howell Mountain Select for $500 per bottle. It was the most expensive Cabernet on the list. Blew us away since we fingered it was not high enough grade stuff to appear on anyone's wine list. Just goes to show you that even the unsophisticated wine drinkers like us can occasionally come across a decent vintage.<GGG>
