On page 33 of the January 2000 Issue of Scientific American, there is a full page advertisement for The Tech Museum in San Jose, California. It is sponsored by Applied Materials, the Department of Commerce, and sgi.

The illustration is of a little girl holding to her ear a tin can with a string. The headline reads, "CHANCES ARE YOUR KIDS HAVE NEVER HEARD OF IRWIN JACOBS. VISIT THE TECH AND HE MIGHT JUST INSPIRE THEM."

For obvious reasons, most everyone who reads this thread or any of the other SI Q threads would know soon enough who Irwin Jacobs is. I thought it was really interesting that the ad assumes that the readership of Scientific American would know him, too.
