I like Germans, I stock up on them once in awhile. I think I was given some Howell Mountain for Christmas; I'll have to dig it out and try it. I usually get two cases from my sister-in-law each year so I spent the month of January pulling corks. The is a Ruth's Cris here, on the Jersey side of the Hudson. I've never gone but I understand it's quite good. Remember those shelves they use in Clean Rooms? The stainless ones that go for a small fortune? They make excellent wine racks for your cellar. I never tried it but my brother used to use them. You could put 50 or a hundred bottles on one rack of shelves. My favorite Germans are probably the Reislings, Spatlese I suppose. I used to really load up on those. Even an Ice Wine now and then, but it's hard to find those. So you really had a Champagne shortage? Out here we thought it was a scam. No apparent shortage at all. Perhaps there isn't as much of a market for it here, I don't know.
