Vitesse offers evaluation board for Gigabit Ethernet and Fibre Channel 10-bit transceivers
CAMARILLO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 22, 1997-- Vitesse Semiconductor Corp Tuesday announced the availability of the LAB25 Logic Analyzer Board which enables theevaluation of Fibre Channel and Gigabit Ethernet transceivers.
The LAB25 Logic Analyzer Board provides a low cost, easy to use tool for signal quality and performance evaluation of both the VSC7125 Fibre Channel transceiver and the VSC7135 Gigabit Ethernet transceiver.
The LAB25 is a self-contained evaluation unit for testing transceiver characteristics such as output jitter and waveform integrity as well as basic functionality. In-depth evaluation can be implemented by connecting a pattern generator (10-bits at either 106.25MHz or 125MHz) to board pods for transmit data and control signal generation. A logic analyzer can also be connected for monitoring receive data and status signals. In this configuration, 8B/10B encoded data is sent to the evaluation unit's transmitter to generate Fibre Channel/Gigabit Ethernet data which is then monitored by the logic analyzer.
Important evaluation board features include a socket architecture for an on-board oscillator. Either the 106.25 oscillator for generation of the VSC7125 transmit clock or the 125MHz oscillator for generation of the VSC7135 transmit clock can be inserted. Also, an on-board voltage regulator may be used to provide 3.3V to either transceiver. Multiple media choices are supported including either SMA or DSUB-9 connectors to interface with the appropriate test equipment.
VSC7125 and VSC7135 Transceivers
The VSC7125 is a 1.0625 Gb/s fully integrated 10-bit transceiver, the industry's first Fibre Channel transceiver. It integrates the transmitter and receiver functions into a single chip and incorporates both clock multiplication and clock recovery using a single, fully integrated PLL. The VSC7135 Gigabit Ethernet transceiver is a erivative of the VSC7125. At 700mW typical power dissipation and 1.25Gb/s data rate, it provides the highest performance and lowest power transceiver solution. The VSC7135 is ideally suited for the high bandwidth requirements of the Gigabit Ethernet market.
The VSC7125 is available with the industry standard pinout in the JEDEC 64 pin, 10mm and 14mm PQFP packages. The VSC7135 operates off a single +3.3V supply and is available in an industry standard 14mm PQFP package. Both products are currently in production.
The LAB25 Logic Analyzer Board is currently available and priced at $600.
