This is my answer to your question....

We will never know for sure but, we exist in an unfair world which favors some over others. Remember that big money talks. No one is ever going to say that it happens for fear of being prosecuted.

God has given us all the gift of instinct. This tells you that something is going on except that you can't prove it. If Msft soared to $ 160 as Qualcomm did then, institutions would have avoided the stock. But instead, the market maker simply held price stable to enable rich guy to buy more at cheap price. Remember the big guys just bought some at between $ 105 and $ 115. They need lots more.

The market marker himself is an institution that knows these big guys and they talk. So just use your imagination. Human behaviour is the same for everyone. Just pretend that you are the big guy and I am your very good friend the market maker, what would you do if you couldn't buy any stock of this company for the last 2 weeks of December 1999.

Maybe you would ask me to hold stock in neutral and, I will ask for more business.

We all win.

Expect a big jump in Msft this week. In the last 2 years Msft has jumped 11 and 12 points in the first week of January alone.
