Apparently you've bought in to the [incorrect] notion that they are losing money on every unit they sell. If they weren't covering their variable costs, plus some, I'd agree with you -- no amount of sales can help them. But I simply do not concur that this is the case.

I do think that AMZN has a very good infrastructure for internet retailing. I don't know if its the best since I do not know every web co's capabilities.

I can't prove it either. However, the only information available, aside from personal experience, it that from post-xmas surveys, which clearly place AMZN squarely at the top. I must say, in my experience, CDNOW does a great job, as well.
