Come on Lorrie. Matthew writes 5:43 that Jesus said " some (not me and certainly not Matthew) say "hate your enemies,"" and in 44 (Jerome set up the verse numbering, not Jesus or Matthew) "but I say love your enemies -- and further elucidation of this point. Matthew attributed to Jesus rejection of the hate and support for the love.
Neither Matthew or Jesus wanted people to hate their enemies.
This is one of the nicest things about Jesus, especially, if as I believe, he was crazy and not god.
Pretty easy for God to say "Love your enemies." Very hard for a man to say the same thing. So they nailed him on a cross. And that was the last we heard of Jesus the Man. They killed him thoroughly.
