This post from Gilder contains a classic "False Premise" that I could not let go by. He equates the second step of the Scientific Method, "forming a hypothesis, " with "Faith".

They are apples and oranges.

You check your hypothesis against reality, and throw if out if it does not work.

You don't check your Faith against reality. It is an unquestioned belief that is not checkable against reality.

I like Gilder when he sticks to science, and the exposition on the Internet in this article is superb. In the philosophic area, he is a typical religious conservative, and he is the using an argument that goes back to the religious intellectuals of the middle ages. Like most "false premise" arguments, it is logically consistent, reads well, and fools most people.
