SalesLogix Closes ACT! Transaction

Completion of Deal Clears Way for Internet-Activated Version of World's Best Selling Contact Manager; ACT!2000 to Utilize Services Delivered by Interact.com

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz., Jan. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- SalesLogix Corporation (Nasdaq: SLGX - news), a leading provider of customer relationship management (CRM) and e-commerce software, today announced that that it had completed its acquisition of the ACT! product line from Symantec (Nasdaq: SYMC - news) on December 31, 1999. ACT! is the world's best selling contact manager with an estimated 3 million users. The transaction has received clearance from the Department of Justice under the Hart-Scott-Rodino Anti- Trust Improvements Act.

With completion of the transaction, SalesLogix obtained an exclusive, worldwide license of the ACT! product line, with an option to purchase the product line at the end of the four year license term, and taken over all development, product management, marketing, sales, and support for ACT! beginning January 1, 2000. To ensure a smooth transition for existing ACT! customers, SalesLogix will purchase sales, marketing, and technical support services from Symantec for the first 90 days of the year. SalesLogix will continue to sell the ACT! product through its existing distribution channels, with ACT! becoming an independent line of business for SalesLogix. The company will expand its operations to three lines of business -- ACT!, SalesLogix, and Interact.com.

``Acquiring ACT! is an important part of making sure its millions of users have access to the breakthrough services we're offering through Interact.com,' said SalesLogix president and CEO Pat Sullivan. ``We're looking forward to implementing the Internet-activated features of ACT!2000 in the near future, instantly introducing ACT! users -- as well as salespeople throughout the world -- to the new world of Web-leveraged selling through Interact.com.'

NEW VERSION OF ACT! TO BE ``INTERNET ACTIVATED'

SalesLogix has a clearly defined strategy for ACT!. The market-leading contact manager will be Internet-activated to provide dynamic content, commerce, and community subscription services that are customized for ACT! users and delivered in a fully integrated, in-context, and relevant manner directly inside the ACT! application. This level of user convenience will mean fewer learning curves and simple ``one-click' access to a wide range of services.

Interact.com is a new business-to-business Interactive Application Service from SalesLogix. It targets the large and growing global sales community, estimated by analysts as consisting of 42+ million sales professionals. To this vast market, Interact.com will deliver value-added e-commerce content, tools, services, and applications designed to increase the effectiveness of sales professionals, regardless of which sales automation or CRM systems they use. For more details on these initiatives, see recent SalesLogix press releases, including December 6, 1999's, ``SalesLogix Announces New Multi-Brand E-Business Strategy to Transform CRM Marketplace.'

INTERACT.COM AVAILABLE FOR EARLY SIGN-UP

Interact.com is available for membership sign-up, with full services scheduled for release in February, 2000. Services will be offered on a subscription basis for $19.95 per month. The first release of Interact.com will initially include free services and ``Internet Activators' for registered SalesLogix and ACT!2000 users.
