Christine, I would argue that our ancestors didn't get cancer because they didn't live long enough.

Interestingly, that's what the internist told my mother about her mother following the autopsy. He said that nearly every elderly person autopsied had cancer. Usually, the cancer's growth is slow as the person's entire system has slowed, and the person dies of something else.

Unfortunately, this was not the case with my mother, but it does seem to hold true as a generality.
