Yes, the Godzilla revision in the Gorilla Game appeared to be written to meet a deadline, but as well there was little additional material at the time that could be included without speculating into the future too far. Geoff Moore is involved in VC group, I believe ICGE (B2B) is part of the VC holdings, and he is writing from personal experience in the evolution of the Internet space.
Geoff claims to draw from many sources for his ideas, does not pretend for a moment he is the source of several of his more profound concepts i.e. price/sales much more important than price/earnings in evaluating performance of startups, esp. in internet/high tech spaces....many times he stresses high tech not his bag, had to ask for help in determining underlying fundamental Gorilla status for QCOM, went to buddies at Phoenix and inquired re the IPR for QCOM, but also used his gglistserve group as resource for more global info on QCOM, and even term Godzilla was sourced from listserve members after he asked for good name to differentiate Internet Gorilla-attributes without proprietary technology lock in, just "stickiness" attributes that serve as lock in. Other attributes eg value chain, market dominance still essential to Godzilla.
His ability to see the forest and all the trees that contribute to the forest landscape, and the ecosystem interdependence of the forest vegetation is what allows him to pull together the multiple authors, their special areas of focus, and put it into a book that gives the global picture of investing in high tech. As you say, maybe his position in the future might be more of "editor" , but right now he is much more author than editor, and he is adamant about giving credit to those that contribute to his book, his perspectives or his knowledge. He lays no claim to what is not his own.
