Actually, this is, in essence, what some--I can't speak for all, naturally--of the Roman Catholic parochial schools were teaching in the fifties, that evolution is sound and a part of God's ongoing work of creation. The sisters that I knew saw no conflict and did not try to uphold Genesis as a factual account. Actually, they introduced us to accounts of creation in other religions and belief systems so they we could observe and consider the similarities and differences and what they might mean about the nature of mankind and prehistory oral traditions.
