Interesting RB posts:
Wharton_Grad "BULLISH ON ANTS" ( ragingbull.com )
Although a long time reader of this board, this is my first post. Just thought I would share my opinion. My background is developing portable software in a data communications environment (DECnet) with some exposure to parallel processing.
1. Technology seems on the mark from my experience. Computers have always wasted most of their time waiting during synchronous processing. Simple analogy: When a person is performing a task it is easy to describe how to perform the task synchronously. Step 1, Step 2, etc.. But when a complicated task is being performed by a large group of people different parts of the project can be done in parallel. Only when one task depends on the results of another must they be done synchronously. Ants technology implements these efficiencies.
2. Timing is perfect. Additional computes needed everywhere from internet servers to intranets. Ants perfect for servers & hierarchical systems. At some point the technology might even allow old CPU's to be reborn as inexpensive parallel processors.
3. Software designed to be portable. Once formal interface is developed it can be moved easily from system to system. Being first to market is key here as it will become standard interface for developers.
4. Company understands the hardware. They started by designing supercomputers (parallel processing machines).
5. Good game plan. Build credibility by showing speed up of off the shelf software (lawson).
6. As far as few questions about company: Mr. Binford will be overseeing testing for Ants. There will of course have to be an outside independent witness (Maybe a well known Consulting firm - Anderson Consulting?) Why hire two people from same family. Irrelevant shows faith well respected professor has in company.
7. My forecast of future:
Strong OEM Market After tests are performed and results are posted there will be tremendous interest from hardware manufacturers. Unisys, IBM, Sun, etc..
VAR Market Compute intensive software developers will want to design for the ANTS interface to allow speed advantage.
END Users All major search engines, E-sites, Signal processing, military applications, NASA, you name it.
Key question - does it work? Would the company set such short term deadlines if they were not sure they had a winner? Unlikely.

MicheElle re the Binford issue ( ragingbull.com )
Thanks for the benefit of the input of your technical expertise. Hopefully, we'll hear more from you here.
Regarding the Binford issue, while I agree this implies a strong "two-fer" vote in favor of the company's technology I am concerned for the potential for claims of conflict of interest, particularly in view of the maliciousness invading the company by various media and commentators on this board and others.
Therefore, I faxed the company my concern over the Binford "two-fer" a couple of days ago. I received a faxed response the same day from Mr. Pettit stating, "we will clarify the role of Dr. Binford in our testing program by a press release prior to the opening of the US exchanges Monday. We believe this clarification, which will be consistent with all our prior statements regarding independent testing will remove any legitimate, well-founded concerns in this respect."
No doubt the Bloombergs and Truthseekers of this world will be laying in waiting to twist each of the company's press releases into a distorted set of facts; Let's see what the company comes out with tomorrow and each time henceforth to offset each malicious attack. Every time the company fends off an attack, the stakes are raised exponentially, perhaps to a factor of 3, even. |
