A very interesting summary, thank you. I agree with many of the decisions, do not agree with some. I have read various quotes from various Founders approving religion, but I do not have them ready to hand. Text hunting is somewhat unsatisfactory anyway, since people think different things at discreet stages of their life, and, in any event, however much respect we give the Founders, they have limited authority. Until innovations in the reading of the text of the Constitution gained ground in the postwar period, such accommodations to the majority were not viewed with particular alarm. Controversy legitimately surrounds some of these issues.....
