Summary of systems being sold in San Diego by small computer
stores which build their own computers. The following
summarizes the types of computer systems being advertised
in the weekly ComputorEdge flyer -- a free publication in
San Diego county.
Pub Date: 12/31 12/17 12/10 11/19 11/05 10/22
# storefronts: 35 37 34 32 34 32
All Athlon: 69% 62% 68% 66% 62% 50%
Athlon >=700: 43% 41% 44% 44% 21% 0%
Athlon 750: 14% 14% 3% 0% 0% 0%
All PIII: 89% 95% 97% 97% 100% 100%
Coppermine: 20% 19% 15% 0% 0% 0%
CuMine 733: 14% 5% 3% 0% 0% 0%
Celeron: 97% 95% 97% 84% 71% 91%
K6-2: 66% 73% 71% 72% 82% 81%
K6-3: 40% 49% 65% 53% 68% 62%

Note: totals are based on machine configurations actually
advertised in the ComputorEdge with a retail price.

Trends
------
WOW, several "Intel only" stores started selling Athlon
for the first time. A couple stores STOPED SELLING PIII's.
More stores selling Athlon than K6-2 for the first time is
good for ASP. Athlon 750 is just as available as the CuMine
733, which supposedly was launched a month earlier. Of
course, PIII-750 and 800 are non-existent. The high-end
clearly belongs to the Athlon. 43% of stores are selling
Athlon 700 systems, only 20% are selling Floppermines of any
variety.

One :-( thing -- no add from ComLogic in this issue, one of
my favorite stores for parts, and an Athlon system maker.
