This is much earlier than I expected. The 512Mb RIMMs were not due till 4th quarter of 2000. Now they'll be here during
the 2nd quarter of 2000, 6 months ahead of schedule! With the 512Mb RIMMs, 2RIMM motherboards can have up to
1Gb on board RAM.

Samsung Develops Higher Capacity Rambus DRAM
SEOUL (Reuters) - South Korea's Samsung Electronics Co (05930.KS) said on Monday it has completed development of
a 288 megabit Rambus dynamic random access memory (DRAM) chip, double the capacity of its mainstay Rambus chip.

A 0.17 micron design rule has been applied for processing the chip.

Samsung has also completed development of a 576 megabyte Rambus in-line memory module, which will comprise 16 pieces of 288 megabit chips, Samsung said in a statement.

Rambus chips use a high-speed memory technology format developed by Rambus Inc (NasdaqNM:RMBS - news).

Samsung currently produces 144 megabit Rambus DRAM chips and is set to gradually raise its monthly production to some two million units by February from around one million in December.

A Samsung spokeswoman said commercial production of the 288 megabit Rambus chip was expected to begin in the second quarter of 2000.

Samsung Electronics is the flagship unit of South Korea's Samsung Group SAGR.CN.
