MASTEC SELECTED AS AN IBM PREFERRED PROVIDER FOR RAPID NETWORK DEPLOYMENT
PROGRAM

MIAMI, FL (January 3, 2000) - MasTec, Inc. (NYSE: MTZ) announced today that
IBM Global Procurement has selected MasTec as a preferred provider of
installation and maintenance services for IBM's Rapid Network Deployment
Program. This program supports IBM's Global Services division, which
provides turn-key multiple-vendor network solutions developed by IBM. The
program also supports IBM's recent strategic alliance with Cisco Systems to
provide a full spectrum of network products and services to customers'
e-business and networking needs.

IBM (NYSE: IBM) will use MasTec's nationwide network installation and
maintenance capabilities on select projects deploying large scale new or
existing network upgrades involving routers, servers and associated network
infrastructure. Companies will be able to turn to IBM Global Services for
all of their network support needs - from network consulting and design to
procurement, implementation and maintenance.

MasTec's latest project under this agreement involves the installation of
more than 1,200 medical kiosks in hospital emergency rooms. These kiosks
give emergency room personnel rapid access to patient information and
pharmaceutical advisories. Other current and ongoing projects by MasTec for
IBM include nationwide deployments of financial service applications and
applications for the retail community.

"Being selected by IBM for participation in this key program further
solidifies the relationship that has been developing between our two
companies," said Joel-Tomas Citron, president and CEO of MasTec, Inc. "The
phenomenal growth in the Internet and e-commerce is increasingly causing
customers to turn to premiere companies for turn-key solutions. MasTec is
pleased to be part of those solutions."

MasTec is the largest end-to-end communications and energy infrastructure
service provider in North America. MasTec (www.mastec.com) builds, installs
and maintains internal and external networks supporting Internet,
Internet-related applications, and other communications and energy
facilities for leading telecommunications, cable television, energy and
