Hello Maurice:

We have discussed new wireless optical links
several times on this thread. Lucent in particular
has a very high rate laser link. These are not
without problems, however. They are sensitive to
fog, flocks of birds, and require perfect alignment
(can be handled by locating them indoors). Obviously,
they require also line of sight. I think they will
be used primarily for building to building communications
in dry areas, so they will not displace CDMA, VOFDM,
etc...

Re. GSTRF, I understand where you stand. My assessment
is not extremely different. We both agree however that
there will be difficult times ahead.
