bn.com has been such a laggard through the holiday season and the latter part of last year, but it showed well in this survey of traffic to online retailers, perhaps this bodes well for the future.

Amazon takes the holiday prize
Margaret Kane, ZDNet

Amazon.com was the big winner of the holiday season, according to new data from Media Metrix.

But the big surprise, according to the traffic data released by the Web measurement firm, was how well traditional retailers fared compared with their dot-com competitors.

The offline brand names seem to have bested the millions of dollars in advertising spent by the dot-coms, at least in some cases.

Based on unique visitors, the top five e-commerce sites between Nov. 14 and Dec. 26 were Amazon (Nasdaq: AMZN - news), eBay.com Inc. (Nasdaq: EBAY - news), eToys.com Inc. (Nasdaq: ETYS - news), Barnesandnoble.com (Nasdaq: BNBN - news) and Toysrus.com (NYSE: TOY - news).
