Skeeter,

What would you have Ligand do when (I'm assuming that it is a matter of when rather than if :-)) they turn profitable? Pay a dividend? I suppose they could pay down debt for a while or buy back shares and increase shareholder value.

But some funds have to be ploughed into R&D. Unless that is done, the well will some day run dry. If you look at the current literature, it is obvious that new results are coming in faster than ever. And new drug developments will follow.

Somehow, Ligand has to identify areas where they are *strong* and focus on those. But they always have to keep looking for new things or they'll be wiped out in time.

I think recent announcements imply that management is quite focused now. Now we have to wait and see what the market will make of it. If they continue on course, past mistakes will be forgiven pretty soon; the market doesn't remember too well.

It would be interesting to have a decent value model. At least it would allow rational guessing.

Thanks, Torben
