I don't see JDSU acquiring ETEK. Products (passive components) basically overlap and no new customers would be acquired. Main benefit would be additional manufacturing capacity (which JDSU is already addressing). Buying a competitor to wipe out competition and/or preventing another company from acquiring ETEK and becoming a competitor are compelling, but at what price? Would it pass regulatory scrutiny? I don't see it happening. An SDLI and ETEK merger is more likely.
