Sorry about the acronym.....

The book I was talking about is "The Motley Fool's Industry Focus 2000 p. 47" - Each year the Motley Fool publishes a book with a section on most of the major industries - discussing valuations, major issues etc (specific to the industry) At the end of each section is a pick for the year. The section on CLECs had ESPI as a pick. There is a discussion going on over on the Fools ESPI board.

I think I'm starting to understand "why" he picked ESPI. At first glance the financial statements look like a train wreck - combined with some bizare press releases made me wonder if the author of the article had lost his mind - but now I'm starting to see his points. As you may know most of the CLECs have to negotiate pricing with with bell operating companies - ESPI is building fibre connections to the major customers (82%) on its own network.

Since the network is all fibre - this provides some advantages with bandwidth - there also is a lot of value in the existing network. They might make a good merger of takeover target....
