Kash, I refer to this passage:
"Yesterday we reported that Compaq will introduce Presarios which incorporate AMD processors and Firewire 1394, rather than USB desktops.

This will be a blow to Intel, which is pushing the USB platform for all it is worth, and today's news about the extensive use of the AMD K6-II in Compaq portables will also shake Chipzilla. "

A low blow to Intel?.
I have seen that accessories for USB and not exactly flooding the market after three years. Firewire?, Apple/sony and a few videocams? not much penetration there.

The question is can the new USB items beat the older stuff at the end of a long price curve. I know the need to get rid of resource bottlenecks will eventually promote USB1/USB2/firewire and other HS serial methods over the old dos based resource limits. it just seems to be quite slow.
The lower average price of systems has made going to USB/FW more costly as a % of system costs. USB/FW has the potential to be cheaper than the old way, so it is just a matter of time/will
